Game of Thrones S3

Like S2, everything felt secondary; like S1, it dealt a painful penultimate.

Pros:
  • I enjoy the show
  • I respect certain elements
Cons:
  • it's cheesy
  • it's depressing
Devastation and death aren't sufficient to call it depressing: it's the void where the heart should be. It's orbiting a black hole. It's the aimlessness we avoid by establishing an ego and protecting it. Game of Thrones doesn't protect it. I appreciate the honesty, but I would rather protect it.

  1. It's weird to see you binging TV after so many years of strict aversion. I've mostly stopped watching it for the same reasons you abstained. Though I'm sure it would be pleasant if I started watching all the big shows of the moment: The Bear, Succession, Irma Vep, etc.

    1. The whole thing has been inner conflict for me. I thought I could be an adult and take what I wanted without shame, but GoT doesn't make me feel good. So this isn't really a step forward in my relationship with TV. If anything it's a step back. I'm excited for it to end. I'm not as strict with myself as I used to be (which is why I justified starting GoT at all), but GoT hasn't offered a good defense for itself or for TV. So I maintain that I'm more relaxed than I used to be, yet nearly all TV lies outside my boundaries of priority.
