Art

2016

I find that a good piece of art requires the following in the formulation and execution of its artistic vision:

Consistency
Subtlety
Effortlessness

This primarily demands the minimizing of the artist's hand in the art, as it comes across to the audience. The creation of high-quality art usually involves favorable circumstances too.

I distinguish between art and entertainment. Artistic quality can be described -- completely, as far as I can currently tell -- by the above characteristics. I have not spoken at all on entertainment and the semantics of quality therein.

My list has been solidified for me by frequent reference and criticism, and thus far it has held up as accurate, complete, and the characteristics discrete. I know that there are improvements to be made, and as I broaden my artistic experiences my analysis will gain credibility.

For now, I use the model to assist me in the articulation of my intuition -- my instinct for artistic quality involves exactly the above discussion, but an explication as I have done helps me communicate what the instinct tells me. So far the list and my intuition have proved compatible.
